9-12-25  Jesuit

Last week we ended our pre-game report on how hard it is to slow down The Randall & Bozman Show.

This week we’ll continue with the same thought. Times two.

In less than one half against Lovejoy last Friday Scots quarterback Buck Randall completed nine of 13 passes (60.23 percent) for 171 yards and two touchdowns. During the same amount of time Scots receiver Cannon Bozman caught five of Randall’s passes for 124 yards and both touchdowns. Bozman gained an average of 24.8 yards per reception. Last week he looked better than the Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb.

How do these numbers stack up against other area 5A high school quarterbacks and receivers in The Dallas Morning News area? Going into this week’s game against the Jesuit Rangers, Randall is the top-rated QB with 571 yards passing and seven touchdowns while Bozman is the top receiver with 337 yards and six touchdowns. Bozman is also second in scoring with 36 points. (HPHS students who learned how to count in Mrs. Norman’s Related Math class a few decades ago will proudly tell you that Bozman has scored six touchdowns.)

It is important to note that much of the success of The Randall & Bozman Show is due to a supporting cast of offensive linemen such as Tripp Townsend, Stuart Allday, Cooper Alt, George Hunt and Mason McDowell. Even Colton Williams leaning on crutches on the sideline is intimidating.

Highland Park has so many good receivers on the roster that they don’t have a receivers room, they have a receivers auditorium. When opposing teams attempt to double-team Mr. Bozman, be sure to purchase a Scots Illustrated game program so you can keep up with all the receivers who will be open.

Let’s not forget about Scots running backs Matthew White and Isaiah Lee, who are excellent runners and threats to catch passes out of the backfield. Last week White had a 60-yard touchdown run called back.

Not only did the Scots offense look crisp last week against a good Lovejoy team, the Scots defense was stifling until the lightening called them off and ended the game. Lovejoy has a good quarterback, Jacob Janecek who was held to three pass completions on nine attempts for a total of 13 yards. He also is a great runner and the HP defense held him to 14 yards on one attempt (not a bad average per carry though).

Jesuit is 0-2 with losses to Hebron (31-3) and New Orleans Jesuit (31-6). The Rangers have scored one touchdown this season and it was a 15-yard pick-6 last week by linebacker Joe Norman. The bad news for the Rangers is that they have given up 62 points in their first two games. The good news is that they are consistent (31 points per game).

This week’s contest being a rivalry game for both teams, look for a great deal of emotion and a few momentum changes that could give you whiplash.

Emotions are running high for players, students and fans from both schools. The game is a sell-out and there is an after-market for tickets. Just don’t try to buy any tickets from a booth that looks like a confessional. The tickets sold there might be for last week’s game.
